SAP NetWeaver DLL causes Memory Leakage

Problem

When dab Nexus extracts data from SAP, it uses far more RAM than usual or expected. This usually results in the service freezing and crashing.

Cause

This memory leakage is caused by this version of the sapnwrfc.dll file (It is one of the files for patch level 19): 7540.711.35.17652

The following steps explain how to find the version number:

  • open the path to the libraries: %WINDIR%\System32 (location for 64-bit systems)
  • right-click on sapnwrfc.dll and open the settings
  • go to 'Details'
  • you find the 'Data version' here

Solution

In order to resolve the memory leakage issue, the SAP NetWeaver DLL must be updated/downgraded to a different version (e.g. patch level 18).

These files need to be replaced (the 'XX' stands for any number, which may vary depending on the release):

  • sapnwrfc.dll
  • icudtXX.dll
  • icuinXX.dll
  • icuucXX.dll
  • libsapucum.dll

Follow these steps to replace the files:

  • stop the dab Nexus Service
  • replace these five files with the new ones (Note: the number may differ for the 'icu'-dlls. If they are different, delete the old files and insert the new ones instead.)
  • restart the dab Nexus Service
  • start a new Extraction to check the memory usage
